The governing elders of New Covenant Worship Center of Wellston, Ohio and the Holy Synod of Global Harvest International Fellowship (headquartered in Stone Mountain, Georgia) are pleased to announce the consecration of His Eminence Bishop James W. Marquis Sr. November 8, 2008 at Christ United Methodist Church in Jackson, Ohio. In a formal church ceremony filled with liturgy, symbolism, and pageantry Bishop Marquis was honored and his ministerial career celebrated by members of his congregation, ministry peers, and public officials representing various levels of local and state government. Among the elected officials in attendance for the historic event were State Senator John A. Carey Jr. and the President of the Jackson County Board of Commissioners, Rick A. McNelly who offered the salutatory address as part of the service touching on the three generations of the Marquis family currently active in ministry in Jackson County and also read a proclamation from the Ohio State Senate on behalf of Senator Carey. Aside from the public officials present to honor Bishop Marquis, Ohio Governor Ted Strickland was unable to attend the ceremony due to a scheduling conflict but sent a proclamation honoring Bishop Marquis and the congregation of New Covenant Worship Center for their tireless community improvement efforts.
The consecrating bishop for the service was the founder and presiding prelate of Global Harvest International Fellowship, Bishop Kenneth W. McNatt of Stone Mountain, Georgia. Assisting Bishop McNatt was Bishop Douglas L. Murray of St. Augustine, Florida and Rev. Jose A. Alvarez of Guatemala City, Guatemala. Ministers and ministries from two foreign nations and five different states met in Jackson, Ohio on for the November 8th service to celebrate with the family and friends of Bishop Marquis and the congregation of New Covenant Worship Center.
With his recent promotion, Bishop Marquis adds another accolade to a much celebrated ministerial career that has spanned 25 years and touched thousands of people around the world with the gospel of Jesus Christ. Bishop Marquis has served as senior pastor of New Covenant Worship Center of Wellston, Ohio since its founding in 1990. To better serve the growing demand for his ministry across the United States and internationally, Bishop Marquis founded New Covenant Global Outreach in 2008 and serves as the presiding bishop of the organization.
