Bishop James W. Marquis Sr. has served
in public ministry for
over twenty years as an evangelist,
pastor, and apostle. Along with his wife, Rev. Joy Marquis they have
pastored New Covenant Worship Center of Wellston, Ohio since its founding
in 1990.
Bishop Marquis first began active
ministry while enlisted in the US Navy. During his time in the navy
Bishop Marquis pastored a congregation of sailors aboard the USS Nassau.
It was also during this time he had the opportunity to meet and disciple
under Bishop John and Pastor Anne Gimenez of Rock Church International
in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
In January 1984 Bishop Marquis married
Joy Stiffler of Jackson, Ohio and upon completion of his naval
commitment they returned to his hometown of Wellston, Ohio. After moving
back Bishop Marquis accepted and saw great success as youth pastor of
his home church of Trinity Church of God. While serving as youth pastor
Bishop Marquis also ministered throughout the region as an evangelist.
It was in this time of the young family’s early years that in 1986 they
welcomed their first child, Rebekah Lynn Marquis.
1988 brought many changes to the
Marquis family. Bishop Marquis took over as pastor of the Waverly Church
of God in Waverly, Ohio. The church saw tremendous growth during this
time and so did the Marquis family. In the summer of 1988 they added a
second child, James W. Marquis Jr.
Following their pastorate of the
Waverly Church of God, the Marquis family returned to Wellston in 1990
to found Trinity Pentecostal Church of God (later renamed New Covenant
Worship Center) in the same location that formerly housed Trinity Church
of God. 1990 also marked the arrival of a third child, Andrew J.
Marquis.
In the eighteen years Bishop Marquis
has pastored New Covenant Worship Center, his ministry has expanded to
touch the world. Bishop Marquis has ministered to thousands of souls in
the United States and abroad. More recently Bishop Marquis has turned
his ministry focus to reaching the nations for Jesus Christ, founding
and serving as the presiding bishop of New Covenant Global Outreach with
a focus on the Central American nations of Guatemala and Nicaragua.

Bishop James W. Marquis, a 1980
graduate of Wellston High School, resides in his hometown of Wellston,
Ohio with his wife of 24 years, Rev. Joy Marquis and their three
children, Rebekah (22), James Jr. (20), and Andrew (18). Rebekah is an
education major at the University of Rio Grande. James Jr. is also
enrolled at the University Rio Grande as a business major. Andrew, a
2008 high school graduate, is making preparations to pursue a career in
law enforcement. All three of Bishop Marquis’s children serve in
ministry-level positions at New Covenant Worship Center following in
their parents footsteps of the gospel ministry.
